“Ahimsa means not to injure any creature by thought, word or deed, not even to the supposed advantage of this creature.”

These are the words of the national icon of India, Mahatma Gandhi, trying to explain Ahimsa or non violence to the world. Today is 2nd October, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, a common man, a barrister, a freedom fighter, a spiritual leader and a congressman. Mahatma Gandhi, a name which cannot be forgotten and is a milestone in the history of India.

From Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi to Mahatma Gandhi

A barrister by profession, he practiced law in Africa where “Apartheid” was a common issue. He stood against racism and came to India to participate in the freedom movements of India. He opposed non-violence and taught “ahimsa” to the whole world. He believed in truth, humanity and non violence. Gradually, he went deeper into the hearts of every Indian and the words of peace, patience, gratitude and freedom were enchanted in every house of India.

The world needs someone like him, someone to stand against injustice without a weapon in his hand. His words were” The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong”. According to him, only the coward can appreciate the path of injustice and violence. He treated everybody equally. Peace and truth are his synonyms.

He fought a long tiring battle with his own people and also with the world.

He was just a common man who wanted peace in the world and wherever he is now, he wants the same!!!
